One of my favourite cities in the world. I can never get bored of walking around, watching people, visiting one of the musea, enjoying the cuisine and of course taking pictures.
I visit NYC for a full week with one of my dearest friends and we stay in Gramercy, near Flatiron. Even though I have been to NYC several times before, this area is still pretty much unexplored. During the weekend many people go out with their dogs and the city seems to relax as well around Gramercy. The private Gramercy park is a steal, with its spring blossom and flower. Too bad it cannot be accessed.
Not far away is Union Square, which besides a convenient subway and shopping area, is a perfect place to simply sit down and talk to the people. Some play chess, a little boy performs his magic tricks and somedays there is a farmer market.
Nearby you can find Sweet Green. If you queu up you can treat yourself with a fulfilling kale salad, which is still to be discovered as delicious meal in the Netherlands, but this is my go-to if I am around.
In the evening we go to a speakeasy; the hidden bar ” The Raines Law Room“. As it is hidden, we do not immediately find the place and walk up and down the street without success, until I saw other people ringing a doorbell. So we follow them and ring the doorbell. A nice looking man opens the door and escorts us to our table. We share the table with the couple that entered before us. The room is appropriately dark, separating different seating areas with curtains.
The list of cocktails is so extensive it is hard to choose. To order we ring the bell next to our table for the waitress to come and take our order. A very enjoyable evening and will visit a speakeasy again next time I visit NYC.
